Punjab: The discord in Punjab Congress continues. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has come under attack from party leaders for organizing a personal rally. A section of the party has demanded disciplinary action against him. Sidhu’s statement has come on this. He said on Thursday that discipline is for everyone, it cannot be one thing for some people and something else for others.
Sidhu, who met state Congress affairs in-charge Devendra Yadav, said that his public meetings were scheduled before his three-day visit to the state. He said that it is everyone’s responsibility to take the ideology of the party to the people. Before going to meet Yadav, Sidhu posted a cryptic video message on X, saying that spineless leaders who cannot stand up for what is right are now talking big. However, he did not take anyone’s name in his sarcastic video message.

Sidhu said, “Those people who sold themselves for every penny, those who were on their knees after making compromises. Let’s talk about banyan trees, about the people growing in pots. After several Congress leaders demanded action against Sidhu for organizing rallies without consulting the state unit, Devendra Yadav had said he would talk to the former cricketer. After meeting the party’s Punjab affairs in-charge on Thursday, Sidhu said that he is going among the people to propagate the ideology of Congress and connect the workers with the party’s heritage. In democracy, people are the biggest force and it is the duty of everyone to adopt the ideology of Congress and consider the high command as supreme.
The party will have to be given a new look – Sidhu
Sidhu said, “We will follow it, but how will anyone vote for you without telling anyone what to do for Punjab.” He stressed that we will have to reinvent and change ourselves (the party). Sidhu further said that Congress cannot stand on its feet without the workers who are the foundation of the party. Saying that he is going to the people to strengthen the foundation, Sidhu said that this is a fight of ideology for the revival of Punjab. Asked whether he would continue holding his rallies, Sidhu said his public meeting programs were scheduled before Devendra Yadav’s visit to the state.
The Congress leader said, “I spoke to Devendra Yadav and told him that my programs were already fixed. Had I known that there was a meeting (of the in-charge of Punjab affairs), then why was the rally planned on January 9? We Sidhu has held three rallies without consulting the state unit, including two in Bathinda and one in Hoshiarpur. The former Punjab Congress chief said that he plans to hold another public meeting on January 21 and visit Kartarpur Sahib on January 24.
Sidhu said- If communication breaks down then doubt arises
The former Punjab Congress president said, “I told Yadav that discipline is for everyone.” Sidhu said that it cannot be one thing for some people and something else for others. When communication breaks down, suspicion arises. Now the link with Yadav has been closed. Where there is communication, confidence will automatically arise. He said that it is good for everyone to work together.
Answering a question on the party’s alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party, Sidhu said that whatever decision the high command takes in the interest of the country and to save democracy, he will accept it. The fight in Punjab is between those who consider politics a transactional business and those who stand with vision, policy and justice for the future generations of Punjab.
